When apparitions are sighted they are often described as ghostlike appearances that defy logic. Vague representations of reality that frighten, but remain fascinating. Even stunning to the beholder.
Apparition strives to gain that fascination with an interesting mix of hardrock and metal. With a recognisable influence of bands like Opeth, Children of Bodom, Tool and a hint of famous hardrock bands like Creed and Pearl Jam, Apparition attempts to grab hold of your attention and keep it focused on the music !

Apparition:
Peter (lead guitar) phoned to ask me if I was still interested in forming a band. Of course I was, so we arranged for Erik (bass) to join the party. And when Ard (guitar) and Pim (drums) decided to work with us a few weeks later, Apparition was born. We're a band with varied views on music, but those views don't clash. It actually forms an interesting mix between hardrock and metal and at times other influences (read Peter).

Seeing that this is my first real band I can't say that I have years of experience. However I can tell you which singers form my biggest inspiration on both clean and grunting vocals. Thé metal vocalist is Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) and where hardrock is concerned Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) is my all time favourite. Bands that I listen to and that inspire me while writing lyrics for Apparition are: Pearl Jam, Opeth, Nevermore, Amon Amarth, In Flames and Korn.

Apparition:
In October 2003 I founded Apparition with Erik (bass) and Barry (singer). For some time the feeling had been nagging at us that we could make thing 'band thing' work. And now, finally, it has. I like the way the entire band is open to idea's, it keeps our music varied, both sensitive and downright loud when it needs to be.
Inspired by:
I've played in a number of bands, but I've also taken guitar lessons. At present I also teach other how to play. My play is inspired by: Soilwork, Opeth, Jesse van Ruller, Dream Theater, Ayreon (Star One) and Frank Gambale.

Apparition:
Allready a great fan of the band, I got the chance to audition shortly
after
I heard Ard was leaving Apparition. I was both surprised and very thrilled
when I heard they wanted me to be part of the team. The thing that really
amazes me in Apparition is that everyone has an equal creative part in the
band. Together with the different backgrounds of all the members it makes
the sound of Apparition quite unique.
Inspired by: My guitar teacher (Peter Kettenis). As far as bands go; the
list is to long to state right here... Keywords are: Megadeth, Metallica,
Children of Bodom, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Lemur Voice, Opeth and
Ayreon.

Apparition:
I joined Apparition from the start. An earlier attempt to form a band with Peter (lead guitar) and Barry (singer) had failed due to the lack of a place to rehearse properly, but the idea had never really left us. So I was happy to hear that we'd take another shot. Now we're here to stay.
Inspired by:
For years I honed my skills with the band Deadheart, but the line-up never worked out properly. My play is mostly influenced by the following bands: Iron maiden, Opeth, Tool, Nevermore and Arch enemy.

Apparition:
In the past I've played in a couple of rockbands, but since I moved to The Hague I hadn't really been active on the drums. So when Barry (singer) phoned to ask me if I was interested in joining Apparition it both surprised and intrigued me. Metal wasn't really my style, but hey, it couldn't hurt to take a look at one of their rehearsals, right? At that rehearsal I found a motivated group of guys, that enjoyed playing in a band and that enthusiasm rubbed off on me. Apart from that they had some pretty cool ideas on the kind of music that they wanted to play. In short: I joined the band.
Inspired by:
Every drummer should agree with me that Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Danny Schuler (Biohazard), Lars Ulrich (Metallica) and Sal Abruscato (Life of Agony) are a great inspiration.
